World Tourism Day – Programme Report

Programme: World Tourism Day Celebration

Theme: Tourism and Sustainable Transformation

A programme was organized on 28 September 2026 to commemorate World Tourism Day. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of tourism, cultural heritage, historical monuments, and sustainable tourism.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Deepa Raga, Principal. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Mallikarjun Kote. The dignitaries highlighted the importance of tourism in promoting cultural heritage, historical awareness, employment opportunities and economic development.

The programme began with a welcome address  Dr. Shivaleela Veerayya Head of the Department of History by the coordinator. The dignitaries and faculty members highlighted the role of tourism in promoting cultural understanding, generating employment, and contributing to economic development.

The programme also encouraged students to understand the tourism potential of Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka, particularly its historical and cultural heritage sites.

Dr. Samrat Shivappa Payad Head of the Department of Mathematics and                 Dr. Laxmi Vishwanath Head of the Department of Commerce and all B.A. I, III & V and B.Com. I, III and V Semester Students attended the programme

The speakers emphasized the importance of responsible and sustainable tourism and encouraged students to explore and preserve the rich historical, cultural and natural heritage of Karnataka. Students actively participated in the programme and gained valuable knowledge about the significance of tourism and heritage conservation.

The programme provided an excellent platform for students to understand the role of tourism in society and its contribution to cultural exchange and regional development.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sri. Basavaraj S. Biradcar Lecturer in History.  The programme was informative and successful in creating awareness among students about responsible and sustainable tourism.
